Sri Suktam-Sanskrit And English Verses With Meaning

Sri Suktam (also known as Lakshmi Suktam) is a devotional hymn dedicated to Goddess Lakshmi. She is the presiding deity of this hymn. Recitation of Sri Suktam is one of the best ways to invoke and worship Goddess Lakshmi. Goddess Lakshmi is also referred to as Sri which means the embodiment of all auspicious qualities. By reciting the Sri Suktam verses a devotee can be blessed with prosperity, goodness, good health, wealth and well-being. Sri Suktam Sanskrit and English verses with meaning are given below.

हरिः ॐ ॥ हिरण्यवर्णां हरिणीं सुवर्णरजतस्रजाम् ।
चन्द्रां हिरण्मयीं लक्ष्मीं जातवेदो म आवह ॥१॥
Harih Om Hirannya-Varnnaam
Harinniim Suvarnna-Rajata-Srajaam।
Candraam Hirannmayiim Lakssmiim
Jatavedo Ma Aavaha॥1॥

Meaning: Hari Om, invoke for me the beautiful Goddess Lakshmi who shines like gold, yellow in hue, wearing gold and silver necklaces.

तां म आवह जातवेदो लक्ष्मीमनपगामिनीम् ।
यस्यां हिरण्यं विन्देयं गामश्वं पुरुषानहम् ॥२॥
Taam Ma Aavaha Jatavedo
Lakssmiim-Anapagaaminiim।
Yasyaam Hirannyam Vindeyam
Gaam-Ashvam Purussaan-Aham॥2॥

Meaning: Invoke for me Goddess Lakshmi, who never perishes and on whose arrival I will receive gold, cattle, horses and sons.

अश्वपूर्वां रथमध्यां हस्तिनादप्रबोधिनीम् ।
श्रियं देवीमुपह्वये श्रीर्मा देवी जुषताम् ॥३॥
Ashva-Puurvaam Ratha-Madhyaam
Hastinaada-Prabodhiniim।
Shriyam Deviim-Upahvaye
Shriirmaa Devii Jussataam॥3॥

Meaning: I invoke Sri (Lakshmi) who herself resides in the chariot in front of which the mighty horses, who is pleased to hear the trumpeting of elephants. May Goddess Lakshmi bless me.

कां सोस्मितां हिरण्यप्राकारामार्द्रां ज्वलन्तीं तृप्तां तर्पयन्तीम् ।
पद्मे स्थितां पद्मवर्णां तामिहोपह्वये श्रियम् ॥४॥
Kaam So-Smitaam Hirannya-Praakaaraam-Aardraam
Jvalantiim Trptaam Tarpayantiim।
Padme Sthitaam Padma-Varnnaam
Taam-Iha-Upahvaye Shriyam॥4॥

Meaning: I hereby invoke Goddess Lakshmi who is an embodiment of Absolute Bliss, who has a smile of joy on her face, whose radiance is like shining gold, whose heart is tender, who is radiant, who is kindhearted, who is the embodiment of the fulfilment of all wishes, who fulfils the desires of her devotees, who is seated on the lotus (Padma or Kamal) and is beautiful like the lotus.

चन्द्रां प्रभासां यशसा ज्वलन्तीं श्रियं लोके देवजुष्टामुदाराम् ।
तां पद्मिनीमीं शरणमहं प्रपद्येऽलक्ष्मीर्मे नश्यतां त्वां वृणे ॥५॥
Prabhaasam Yashasaa Loke
Deva-Jussttaam-Udaaraam।
Padminiim-Iim Sharannam-Aham
Prapadye-Alakssmiir-Me Nashyataam Tvaam Vrnne॥5॥

Meaning: I take refuge in Goddess Lakshmi who is beautiful like the moon, who shines brightly, who is bursting with fame, who is revered (indeed) by the divine beings, who is profoundly charitable, and grand just like the lotus. May my adversity perish. O Mother, I surrender myself to you.

आदित्यवर्णे तपसोऽधिजातो वनस्पतिस्तव वृक्षोऽथ बिल्वः ।
तस्य फलानि तपसानुदन्तु मायान्तरायाश्च बाह्या अलक्ष्मीः ॥६॥
Aaditya-Varnne Tapasoa-Adhi-Jaato
Vanaspatis-Tava Vrkssah-Atha Bilvah।
Tasya Phalani Tapasaa-Nudantu
Maaya-Antaraayaashca Baahyaa Alakssmiih॥6॥

Meaning: O Goddess, you are revealed like the sun. The plants, (like) the Bilva (wood-apple) tree have grown up by your power and glory. May the fruits of this tree, by your grace, alleviate our external and internal poverty.

उपैतु मां देवसखः कीर्तिश्च मणिना सह ।
प्रादुर्भूतोऽस्मि राष्ट्रेऽस्मिन् कीर्तिमृद्धिं ददातु मे ॥७॥
Upaitu Maam Deva-Sakhah
Kiirtish-Ca Manninaa Saha।
Praadurbhuutah-Asmi Raassttre-Asmin
Kiirtim-Rddhim Dadaatu To Me॥7॥

Meaning: O Goddess, may the friend of Kubera and his friend Manibhadra i.e. the daughter of Prajapati Daksha come to me. May the glory and wealth bestow on me. May the fame and respect of the country in which I was born increase.

क्षुत्पिपासामलां ज्येष्ठामलक्ष्मीं नाशयाम्यहम् ।
अभूतिमसमृद्धिं च सर्वां निर्णुद मे गृहात् ॥८॥
Kssut-Pipaasaa-Malaam
Jyesstthaam-Alakssmiim Naashayaamy-Aham।
Abhuutim-Asamrddhim Cha
Sarvaam Nirnnuda Grhaat॥8॥

Meaning: Invoke for me Goddess Lakshmi, who will remove different evils like hunger, thirst and impurity associated with her elder sister Alakshmi. O Goddess, drive out all kinds of poverty and evil from my house.

गन्धद्वारां दुराधर्षां नित्यपुष्टां करीषिणीम् ।
ईश्वरींग् सर्वभूतानां तामिहोपह्वये श्रियम् ॥९॥
Gandha-Dvaaraam Duraadharssam
Nitya-Pussttaam Kariissinniim।
Iishvariing Sarva-Bhuutaanaam
Taam-Iha-Upahvaye Shriyam॥9॥

Meaning: I invoke that Goddess Lakshmi, who is the source of all fragrances, who is rarely seen, who is ever-nourished, who lives in abundance, and who is supreme over all created beings.

मनसः काममाकूतिं वाचः सत्यमशीमहि ।
पशूनां रूपमन्नस्य मयि श्रीः श्रयतां यशः ॥१०॥
Manasah Kaamam-Aakuutim
Vaacah Satyam-Ashiimahi।
Pashuunaam Rupam-Annasya Mayi
Shriih Shrayataam Yashah॥10॥

Meaning: Invoke for me that Lakshmi for whom my heart longs and to whom my words tries to reach. May Sri (Lakshmi) come to me in the form of cattle, beauty and various food items.

कर्दमेन प्रजाभूता मयि सम्भव कर्दम ।
श्रियं वासय मे कुले मातरं पद्ममालिनीम् ॥११॥
Kardamena Prajaa-Bhuutaa
Sambhava Kardama।
Shriyam Vaasaya Me Kule
Maataram Padma-Maaliniim॥11॥

Meaning: O Goddess, you have progeny in Kardama. (Hence) O Kardama, you stay with me and be the cause of Goddess Lakshmi with garlands of lotus flowers, to have her abode in my ancestral line.

आपः सृजन्तु स्निग्धानि चिक्लीत वस मे गृहे ।
नि च देवीं मातरं श्रियं वासय मे कुले ॥१२॥
Aapah Srjantu Snigdhaani
Cikliita Vasa Grhe।
Ni Ca Deviim Maataram
Shriyam Vaasaya Kule॥12॥

Meaning: Invoke for me Goddess Lakshmi who have progeny in Chiklita, the creator of loveliness in all things. O Chiklita, reside in my home and arrange to make Goddess Lakshmi stay in my lineage!

आर्द्रां पुष्करिणीं पुष्टिं पिङ्गलां पद्ममालिनीम् ।
चन्द्रां हिरण्मयीं लक्ष्मीं जातवेदो म आवह ॥१३॥
Aardraam Pusskarinniim Pussttim
Pinggalaam Padma-Maaliniim।
Candraam Hirannmayiim Lakssmiim
Jatavedo Ma Aavaha॥13॥

Meaning: Invoke for me that Lakshmi, who is like the moisture of a lotus pond, who is the presiding deity of nourishment, who is yellow in colour, who wears garlands of lotus flowers, who blooms like the moon, and who shines like gold.

आर्द्रां यः करिणीं यष्टिं सुवर्णां हेममालिनीम् ।
सूर्यां हिरण्मयीं लक्ष्मीं जातवेदो म आवह ॥१४॥
Aardraam Yah Karinniim Yassttim
Suvarnnam Hema-Maaliniim।
Suuryaam Hirannmayiim Lakssmiim
Jatavedo Ma Aavaha॥14॥

Meaning: O Jatavedo, please invoke for me the Goddess Lakshmi, who is like the moisture that supports the performance of activities, who is radiant like gold, and who shines like the sun.

तां म आवह जातवेदो लक्ष्मीमनपगामिनीम् ।
यस्यां हिरण्यं प्रभूतं गावो दास्योऽश्वान् विन्देयं पूरुषानहम् ॥१५॥
Taam Ma Aavaha Jatavedo
Lakssmiim-Anapagaaminiim।
Yasyaam Hirannyam Prabhuutam Gaavo
Daasyah-Ashvaan Vindeyam Puurussaan-Aham॥15॥

Meaning: Invoke for me that Lakshmi who does not move away, by whose golden touch I will gain lots of cattle, slaves, horses and progeny.

यः शुचिः प्रयतो भूत्वा जुहुयादाज्यमन्वहम् ।
सूक्तं पञ्चदशर्चं च श्रीकामः सततं जपेत् ॥१६॥
Yah Shucih Prayato Bhuutvaa
Juhu-Yaad-Aajyam-Anvaham।
Suuktam Pancadasharcam Ca
Shriikaamah Satatam Japet॥16॥

Meaning: Those who wish to attain the grace of Goddess Lakshmi, should be bodily clean and devotionally disposed every day and should constantly recite these fifteen verses of Sri Suktam by offering ghee in the fire.

पद्मानने पद्म ऊरु पद्माक्षी पद्मासम्भवे ।
त्वं मां भजस्व पद्माक्षी येन सौख्यं लभाम्यहम् ॥१७॥
Padma-Aanane Padma Uuru
Padma-Akssii Padmaa-Sambhave।
Tvam Maam Bhajasva Padma-Akssii
Yena Saukhyam Labhaami-Aham॥17॥

Meaning: Pranam to Goddess Lakshmi, whose face is of lotus, who stands on the support of lotus, whose eyes are of lotus, and who is born of lotus. O Mother, manifest in me with lotus eyes so that I may be filled with heavenly bliss.

अश्वदायि गोदायि धनदायि महाधने ।
धनं मे जुषतां देवि सर्वकामांश्च देहि मे ॥१८॥
Ashva-Daayi Go-Daayi
Dhana-Daayi Mahaa-Dhane।
Dhanam To Me Jussataam Devii
Sarva-Kaamaamsh-Ca Dehi To Me॥18॥

Meaning: Pranam to Goddess Lakshmi, who is the giver of horses, cows and wealth, and who is the source of great abundance. O Goddess, please grant me wealth and fulfill all my desires.

पुत्रपौत्र धनं धान्यं हस्त्यश्वादिगवे रथम् ।
प्रजानां भवसि माता आयुष्मन्तं करोतु माम् ॥१९॥
Putra-Pautra Dhanam Dhaanyam
Hasti-Ashva-Aadi-Gave Ratham।
Prajaanaam Bhavasi Maataa
Aayussmantam Karotu Maam॥19॥

Meaning: O Mother, give us children and grandchildren to continue our lineage, and our daily wealth, grains, elephants, horses, cows and carriages. Mother, we are your children; please make our lives long and full of vigour.

धनमग्निर्धनं वायुर्धनं सूर्यो धनं वसुः ।
धनमिन्द्रो बृहस्पतिर्वरुणं धनमश्नुते ॥२०॥
Dhanam-Agnir-Dhanam Vaayur-Dhanam
Suuryo Dhanam Vasuh।
Dhanam-Indro Brhaspatir
Varunnam Dhanam-Ashnute॥20॥

Meaning: O Goddess, you are the force behind Agni, you are the force behind Vayu, you are the force behind Surya, you are the force behind the Vasus. You are the force behind Indra, Vrihaspati, and Varuna; you are the all-pervading spirit behind everything.

वैनतेय सोमं पिब सोमं पिबतु वृत्रहा ।
सोमं धनस्य सोमिनो मह्यं ददातु सोमिनः ॥२१॥
Vainateya Somam Piba
Somam Pibatu Vrtrahaa।
Somam Dhanasya Somino
Mahyam Dadaatu॥21॥

Meaning: Those who cherish Lord Vishnu in their heart (like Garuda, the son of Vinata carries Him on his back) always drink Soma (Soma represents divine bliss). Let that Soma deestroy their inner enemies of desires. That Soma originates from Sri (Goddess Lakshmi) who is the embodiment of Soma; O Mother, please give that Soma to me too as you are the possessor of that Soma.

न क्रोधो न च मात्सर्य न लोभो नाशुभा मतिः ।
भवन्ति कृतपुण्यानां भक्तानां श्रीसूक्तं जपेत्सदा ॥२२॥
Na Krodho Na Cha Maatsarya
Na Lobho Na-Ashubhaa Matih।
Bhavanti Krtpunnyaanaam Bhaktaanaam
Shriisuuktam Japet-Sadaa॥22॥

Meaning: Neither outrage nor envy, neither ravenousness nor fiendish intentions can exist within the devotees who have obtained merit continuously presenting the sacred Sri Suktam with devotion.

वर्षन्तु ते विभावरि दिवो अभ्रस्य विद्युतः ।
रोहन्तु सर्वबीजान्यव ब्रह्म द्विषो जहि ॥२३॥
Varssantu Te Vibhaavari
Divo Abhrasya Vidyutah।
Rohantu Sarva-Biija-Anyava
Brahma Dvisso Jahi॥23॥

Meaning: O Goddess, please shower your light of beauty like lightning in a sky filled with thunder-cloud and rise all the seeds of separation to the next spiritual plane. O Goddess, you’re of the nature of Brahman and destroyer of all contempt.

पद्मप्रिये पद्मिनि पद्महस्ते पद्मालये पद्मदलायताक्षि ।
विश्वप्रिये विष्णु मनोऽनुकूले त्वत्पादपद्मं मयि सन्निधत्स्व ॥२४॥
Padma-Priye Padma Padma-Haste
Padma-Aalaye Padma-Dalaayata-Akssi।
Vishva-Priye Vissnnu Mano-Anukuule
Tvat-Paada-Padmam Mayi Sannidhatsva॥24॥

Meaning: Pranam to Goddess Lakshmi who is fond of lotuses, who is the possessor of lotuses, who holds lotuses in her hands, who dwells in the abode of lotuses and whose eyes are like lotus petals, and who is fond of the worldly manifestations which are directed towards Lord Vishnu. O Mother, bless me so that I can have nearness to your lotus feet within me.

या सा पद्मासनस्था विपुलकटितटी पद्मपत्रायताक्षी ।
गम्भीरा वर्तनाभिः स्तनभर नमिता शुभ्र वस्त्रोत्तरीया ॥२५॥
Yaa Saa Padma-Aasana-Sthaa Vipula-Kattitattii
Padma-Patraayata-Akssii।
Gambhiiraa Varta-Naabhih Stanabhara
Namita Shubhra Vastra-Uttariiyaa॥25॥

Meaning: Pranam to Goddess Lakshmi, who stands on lotus with her excellent shape, with wide hip and eyes just like the lotus leaves. Her deep navel is bent inwards, and with her full bosom she is slightly bowed down, and she is dressed in pure white garments.

लक्ष्मीर्दिव्यैर्गजेन्द्रैर्मणिगणखचितैस्स्नापिता हेमकुम्भैः ।
नित्यं सा पद्महस्ता मम वसतु गृहे सर्वमाङ्गल्ययुक्ता ॥२६॥
Lakssmiir-Divyair-Gajendrair-Manni-Ganna
Khacitais-Snaapitaa Hema-Kumbhaih।
Nityam Saa Padma-Hastaa Mama Vasatu
Grhe Sarva-Maanggalya-Yuktaa॥26॥

Meaning: Pranam to Goddess Lakshmi, who is showered with water from gold pitcher by the finest of celestial elephants that are studded with different gems, who is eternal with lotus in her hands, who is united with all the promising qualities. O Goddess, please dwell in my house and make it favorable by your nearness.

लक्ष्मीं क्षीरसमुद्र राजतनयां श्रीरङ्गधामेश्वरीम् ।
दासीभूतसमस्त देव वनितां लोकैक दीपांकुराम् ॥२७॥
Lakssmiim Kssiira-Samudra Raaja-Tanayaam
Shriirangga-Dhaama-Iishvariim।
Daasii-Bhuuta-Samasta Deva Vanitaam
Loka-Eka Diipa-Amkuraam॥27॥

Meaning: Pranam to Mother Lakshmi, who is the daughter of the king of ocean, who is the great Goddess dwelling in Ksheera Samudra, the dwelling place of Lord Vishnu, who is served by the Devas along with their servants, and who is the one light in all the worlds that sprouts behind every manifestation.

श्रीमन्मन्दकटाक्षलब्ध विभव ब्रह्मेन्द्रगङ्गाधराम् ।
त्वां त्रैलोक्य कुटुम्बिनीं सरसिजां वन्दे मुकुन्दप्रियाम् ॥२८॥
Shriimat-Manda-Kattaakssa-Labdha
Vibhava Brahmaa-Indra-Ganggaadharaam।
Tvaam Trai-Lokya Kuttumbiniim
Sarasijaam Vande Mukunda-Priyaam॥28॥

Meaning: By getting whose grace through her wonderful delicate look, Lord Brahma, Indra, and Gangadhara become great. O Goddess, you bloom within the Three Worlds (heaven, earth, atmosphere; later, heaven, world, netherworld) like a lotus as the mother of the vast family; You’re lauded by all and you’re the beloved of Mukunda.

सिद्धलक्ष्मीर्मोक्षलक्ष्मीर्जयलक्ष्मीस्सरस्वती ।
श्रीलक्ष्मीर्वरलक्ष्मीश्च प्रसन्ना मम सर्वदा ॥२९॥
Siddha-Lakssmiir-Mokssa-Lakssmiir
Jaya-Lakssmiis-Sarasvatii।
Shrii-Lakssmiir-Vara-Lakssmiishca
Prasannaa Mama Sarvadaa॥29॥

Meaning: O Goddess, may your different forms – Siddha Lakshmi, Moksha Lakshmi, Jaya Lakshmi, Saraswati, Sri Lakshmi, and Vara Lakshmi always be gracious to me.

वरांकुशौ पाशमभीतिमुद्रां करैर्वहन्तीं कमलासनस्थाम् ।
बालार्क कोटि प्रतिभां त्रिणेत्रां भजेहमाद्यां जगदीस्वरीं त्वाम् ॥३०॥
Vara-Angkushau Paasham-Abhiiti-Mudraam
Karair-Vahantiim Kamala-Aasana-Sthaam।

Meaning: From your four hands–first in Vara Mudra (boon-giving gesture), second holding Angkusha (hook), third holding a Pasha (noose) and fourth in Abhiti Mudra (fearlessness gesture) flows boons, assurance of help during the period of obstacles, assurance of breaking our bondages and fearlessness. As you stand on the lotus. I worship you, O Primordial Goddess of the Universe, millions of newly risen suns appear from your three eyes.

सर्वमङ्गलमाङ्गल्ये शिवे सर्वार्थ साधिके ।
शरण्ये त्र्यम्बके देवि नारायणि नमोऽस्तु ते ॥

Meaning: Pranam to Goddess Narayani, who is the auspiciousness in all the auspicious, who is auspiciousness herself, who is complete with all the auspicious attributes, and who fulfills all the objectives of the devotees. Pranam to Goddess Narayani, who is the giver of refuge with three eyes and a shining face.

सरसिजनिलये सरोजहस्ते धवलतरांशुक गन्धमाल्यशोभे ।
भगवति हरिवल्लभे मनोज्ञे त्रिभुवनभूतिकरि प्रसीद मह्यम् ॥३२॥
Sarasija-Nilaye Saroja-Haste Dhavalatara-Amshuka Gandha-Maalya-Shobhe |
Bhagavati Hari-Vallabhe Manojnye Tri-Bhuvana-Bhuuti-Kari Prasiida Mahyam ||32||

Meaning: Pranam to Goddess Lakshmi, who abides in lotus and holds lotus in her hands, who is clothed in glaring white garments, and who emnates a celestial atmosphere. O Goddess, you are dearer than the dearest of Hari and the most captivating; you are the source of wellbeing and affluence of all the Three Worlds (heaven, earth, atmosphere; later, heaven, world, netherworld). O Goddess, please be gracious to me.

विष्णुपत्नीं क्षमां देवीं माधवीं माधवप्रियाम् ।
विष्णोः प्रियसखीं देवीं नमाम्यच्युतवल्लभाम् ॥३३॥
Vissnnu-Patniim Kssamaam Deviim
Maadhaviim Maadhava-Priyaam।
Vissnnoh Priyasakhiim Deviim
Namaamy-Acyuta-Vallabhaam॥33॥

Meaning: O Devi, you are the consort of Lord Vishnu; you are one with Madhava and extremely dear to him. Pranam to you, Devi, who is the dear companion of Lord Vishnu and extremely beloved of Achyuta.

महालक्ष्मी च विद्महे विष्णुपत्नी च धीमहि ।
तन्नो लक्ष्मीः प्रचोदयात् ॥३४॥
Mahaalakssmii Ca Vidmahe
Vissnnu-Patniim Ca Dhiimahi।
Tat-No Lakssmiih Pracodayaat॥34॥

Meaning: May we know the divine essence of Mahalakshmi by meditating on her, who is the consort of Lord Vishnu. Let that divine essence of Lakshmi awaken our spiritual awareness.

श्रीवर्चस्यमायुष्यमारोग्यमाविधात् पवमानं महियते ।
धनं धान्यं पशुं बहुपुत्रलाभं शतसंवत्सरं दीर्घमायुः ॥३५॥
Shrii-Varcasyam-Aayussyam-Aarogyamaa
Vidhaat Pavamaanam Mahiyate।
Dhanam Dhaanyam Pashum Bahu-Putra-Laabham
Shatasamvatsaram Diirghamaayuh॥35॥

Meaning: O Goddess, let your auspiciousness flow in our lives as the vital power, making our lives long and healthy, and filled with bliss. And let your auspiciousness manifest around as wealth, grains, cattle and many offsprings who live happily for hundred years, and who live happily all through their long lives.

ऋणरोगादिदारिद्र्यपापक्षुदपमृत्यवः ।
भयशोकमनस्तापा नश्यन्तु मम सर्वदा ॥३६॥
Rnna-Roga-Aadi-Daaridrya-Paapa
Kssud-Apamrtyavah।
Bhaya-Shoka-Manastaapaa
Nashyantu Mama Sarvadaa॥36॥

Meaning: O Goddess, please remove my debts, illness, poverty, sins, hunger and the possibility of unnatural death and also remove my fear, sorrow, and mental agony. O Goddess, please remove them always.

य एवं वेद ।
ॐ महादेव्यै च विद्महे विष्णुपत्नी च धीमहि ।
तन्नो लक्ष्मीः प्रचोदयात्
ॐ शान्तिः शान्तिः शान्तिः ॥३७॥
