Happy New Year

Everything new and auspicious is welcomed by Hinduism. The ancient Hindu sages showed their regular respects to the rising sun. To welcome a new born baby we blow conch-shell. Our women raise uluddhani (sound raised by Hindu women by the moving of tongue on festive occasions). We also celebrate the new life of a couple, moving into a newly built house etc. following religious rites. So New Year or New Year’s Day celebration is our sacred duty.

One can ask us why we should celebrate the Gregorian calendar year. Though Hindu Temple Talk is Hindu religious article based site, it defends all things used for the wellbeing of the world. It doesn’t discriminate the good things from religious point of view. It also believes that all are created by the same Creator and live in the same world created by Him. So, we should participate in the celebration of the New Year.

New Year

Many think that at one second past midnight on January 1, the day changed from Thursday to Friday, usually an unremarkable transition of no special significance. But we don’t think so. A new year’s day is not merely a chart showing the days, weeks and months of a particular year to us. We think a new year carries hopes, inspiration, good luck etc. for all. All the days of a particular yearly calendar may not be auspicious to a person. Yet, we always hope a happy and prosperous future of our world. No war or contradiction, we want peace and amity among all of this globe at this very beginning of the new year . We pray for those who are exploited in many ways across the world; we pray for those who are poverty and disaster stricken in the third world; we pray for those who are living as refugees at different corners of the world; we pray for all the departed souls of this planet.

The world people are now celebrating the New Year’s Day. We would like to share our feelings with them. We wish `Happy New Year’ to all of the world and we would like to quote-

Om Sarve Bhavantu Sukhinah

Sarve Santu Nir-Aamayaah |

Sarve Bhadraanni Pashyantu

Maa Kashcid-Duhkha-Bhaag-Bhavet |

Om Shaantih Shaantih Shaantih ||

[Om, May All become Happy,

May All be Free from Illness.

May All See what is Auspicious,

May no one Suffer.

Om Peace, Peace, Peace.]
