The entire corridor of the temple is divided into three parts and it has four large doors and a circular passage. It is customary to visit Vishwanath by bathing in the Ganges. By opening this corridor, now visitors can easily take bath and visit the temple.
Vishwanath Temple is believed to be the first ling among the twelve jyotirlings. It is said in the Puranas that Mahadeva himself once pierced heaven, earth and underworld with a single flame to stop the quarrel between Lord Brahma and Lord Vishnu. This Jyotirlinga was created from the flame of that light. By creating this Jyotirling, Mahadev proved that he is the best of all gods, he is Devadideva.
Kashi Vishwanath Temple is also known as Vishveshwar Temple. This temple is said to be very favorite of Mahadev. Hindus believe that death in Kashi is a way to get rid of the cycle of birth and death. It is believed that whoever dies here, Mahadev himself gives the Tarak Mantra in his ear. Devotees also believe that all wishes are fulfilled by praying at Vishwanath temple in Kashi.
