Goddess Siddhidatri is worshiped on the ninth day of Navratri in Ashwin and Chaitra months. Mata Siddhidatri is the final form of Navadurga. In this form the goddess gives Ashtasiddhi (eight achievements) to her devotees. That is why this form of the goddess is called Siddhidatri.
The vehicle of Goddess Siddhidatri is a lion, but she is seated on a lotus. The goddess is usually four-armed. She holds Shankha (conch shell), Chakra (a whirling disc), Gada (mace) Padma (lotus) in her four hands. But according to the Markendeya Purana, ‘Siddhidatri’ is eight-armed and in the ‘Sri Krishna Janma Kanda’ of the Brahmabaivarta Purana, ‘Siddhidatri’ is eighteen-armed. Goddess Siddhidatri is worshiped by everyone (human beings, demons and gods).
It is said that Goddess Siddhidatri sits on the left limb of Lord Shiva in the form of Ardhanarishwara. According to the Devi Bhagavata Purana, Lord Shiva himself worshiped Goddess Parvati as Siddhidatri. For this reason, Shiva attained all the Siddhis (achievements).
There are temples of Siddhidatri in different parts of the country. The most notable place among them is Kashi or Varanasi. Besides, Siddhidatri temples of Devpahari in Chhattisgarh, Satna and Sagar in Madhya Pradesh are very famous. Devotees throng these temples in large numbers on the ninth day of Navratri in autumn and spring.
Devotees consider Goddess Siddhidatri to be another form of Narayani. On the Navami day of Durga Puja and Basanti Puja, the saints attain Ashtasiddhi by worshiping that form of the Goddess and taking vows. These Ashtasiddhis are Anima, Laghima, Attibha, Garima, Ishita, Prakamya, Vasita and Mahima. This Ashtasiddhis are considered to be met with Brahmavidya according to the scriptures.
According to the scriptures, worshiping Goddess Siddhidatri strengthens the sixth and eleventh houses of a devotee’s birth chart. Goddess Siddhidatri gives auspicious results to those devotees of the goddess who have enemies in their lives, whose court cases are never ending or who are suffering from Ketu problems.
